It takes a lot of people to handle all of the various aspects of a long distance move. Atlas has a network of well trained, highly experienced service providers available on a year-round basis to handle your every moving need.
Your Atlas Moving Consultant
This individual works for the Atlas agent at the origin location and is responsible for a variety of important functions. Starting with your in-home survey, your moving consultant will meet with you to determine your specific moving requirements including preferred scheduling for packing, loading and delivery. He/she will be the one to prepare your cost proposal that will include a price based on the estimated weight of your shipment plus any accessorial services such as packing, automobile transport, appliance servicing etc. as well as the premium if you have chosen to purchase full replacement cargo protection.
Your consultant will ensure that all of your moving details are properly communicated to all of the various parties involved including Atlas’ operations department. This representative is available to answer your questions and to provide you with professional guidance to ensure you are totally satisfied with the service provided.
Van Operator
Your Atlas Van Operator is your “moving day manager”. Loading a moving van is like doing a giant jig saw puzzle and only a professionally trained van operator has the skill and experience to do it right.
Your Atlas van operator will take the time to walk through your home with you and to explain the moving process in detail. He takes full responsibility for the service provided by all members of his crew and as such supervises them closely.
Your Item Inventory
Prior to loading your shipment your van operator or a member of his team will attach an inventory tag to each item and carton to be moved and will then prepare a detailed inventory listing. Each item will be carefully inspected for pre-existing damage and a notation will be made on the listing. You should take the time to accompany the van operator during this process. Upon delivery a customer check-off sheet will assist you in verifying that all items on your inventory were received.
Loading Preparation
Floor runners and banister covers will protect your home during loading. Thick cushioned moving pads will be used to safeguard your furniture. If necessary, items will be carefully disassembled and the hardware pieces will be placed in a special Atlas set-up cartons so they are accessible for reassembly at destination. White and light coloured upholstery wll be shrink-wrapped in clear plastic and then carefully wrapped in a quilted moving pad. Rugs and under padding will be rolled and tied before being placed in protective wrapping.
Professional equipment will be used to move appliances and other heavy pieces. Each item will be properly positioned in the trailer to ensure it arrives at your new home in its original condition.
Your car can travel in the same van with your household furnishings or if you prefer, your Atlas representative can arrange to ship it via rail or with an over-the-road auto carrier specialist.
Delivering Your Shipment
Your Atlas Van Operator will contact you at least 24 hours prior to his arrival to coordinate the date and time for delivery. All of your items will be placed in your home according to your instructions. This is one reason why it is helpful to have made up a floor plan up in advance of move-in-day. Cartons will be placed in the correct rooms. Prior to leaving your van operator will do a final walk-through with you to ensure you are totally satisfied with our service.
Unpacking
Your Atlas agent at destination will assign properly trained personnel to unpack any agent packed cartons. Your unpackers will remove every item from the cartons and place them on convenient surfaces so that you can put them away where you want at your leisure. They will take away any packing materials and debris when they leave.
A “valet” type service whereby we unpack and put items away in cupboards and closets is available at a reasonable hourly rate.
